Gil served for more than twenty years as an FBI Special Agent after starting his federal law enforcement career with the FBI in 1986. After completion of the FBI Academy at Quantico, Virginia, Gil has been assigned to the New Orleans, Dallas, FBI Field Divisions, as well as the U.S. Embassy in the Republic of Panama as a Legal Attaché. Gil has investigated a variety of criminal matters that include Drugs, Organized Crime, and White Collar Crime matters. After the September 11, 2001 bombing of the World Trade Center, in New York City, Gil was assigned to investigate Counter-Terrorism matters and then assigned to the Field Intelligence Group in the Dallas Field Division.
Gil’s lateral duties included FBI Instructor, Crisis Negotiator, and Public Speaker. SA Torrez taught Crisis Negotiation and Crisis Management, to police officers and military personnel in the U.S. throughout Central and South America as well as the Caribbean. Prior to the FBI, SA Torrez served five years in the U.S. Air Force (USAF). Gil served with the 1st Special Operations Wing as a gunner and Instructor on AC-130 gunships. Gil served in Southeast Asia and saw combat during the Viet Nam war.
Once discharged from the USAF, Gil attended Southwest Texas State University, in San Marcos, Texas and received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1985. Gil is fluent in the Spanish language and is often sought for his language skills concerning high-level felony state and federal cases.
